Radiography, or x-rays can provide lots of important information about many different diseases, and are routinely used along with a wellness exam to help identify causes, and to diagnose potential problems before they become serious.
Radiographs can provide your veterinarian with important information about your pet’s bones, gastrointestinal tract (stomach, intestines, colon), respiratory tract (lungs), heart, and genitourinary or urogenital system (bladder, prostate). Interpretation of these radiographs requires great skill on the part of the veterinarian, and occasionally may need a consultation with a specialist.
Pets need to remain completely still while an x-ray is being taken, to avoid getting a blurry image. Therefore, in some cases we may need to sedate your pet or use short-acting general anesthesia to keep them from moving.
